"The atelier rises above my spot of repose on the settee, its high ceilings offering a creative space. Frames climb the walls, the stairs, the cabinetry, reaching upward in a wholly unnatural way. Immured within those impenetrable frames reside a dozen shapes of a woman who could not have lived here; in some sense she does. Does she see my angles as I see hers? The finished contrasts the unfinished, the dark the light, the messy the orderly, the modern the classy. I'm confused yet satisfied. I write these words. Settee, frames, paintings, supplies not yet realized, and I are all watched over by an illustrative electric chandelier. I reach to turn on the light. "
